A Passion for Teaching
Co-Founder and Manager
Meryl has been involved in education in various capacities for over 15 years. Born and raised in Johannesburg, she obtained an Honours degree from the University of Witwatersrand in 2006. She taught in a range of educational settings, before relocating to China where she spent 4 years establishing the only Special needs school in Beijing. Meryl and her husband returned to South Africa in 2012 to pioneer the first trilingual preschool in the country (Chinese, English and isiZulu for 2-5yr olds).
The success of their preschool model led them to establish ZuluMites – an organization that offers schools and families resources, kids classes and training that makes isiZulu more accessible and fun.
As the proud mother of four beautiful children, she lives out her passion for education every day with a focus on multilingualism, and has become a thought leader on the topic of children’s language acquisition. All four of her children have interesting Biblical names and are trilingual.
FacilitatorGlory became a lead facilitator in July 2018 after 3 years as a Zulu assistant. She studies part time and has a really loving heart towards young Zulu learners. Glory has undergone our in-house teacher training and has many years experience working with children in a school setting, she is also the mother of 3.
Mama Zama is the latest addition to the ZuluMites team and shares her time between leading and assisting in classes and developing new content. She has a BTech in Language Practice and is a mother of 2.
